My (New) Daily Blog

If you’re a visitor to the website, you might have noticed a new link in the menu — Daily Blog. If you receive my writing by email, here’s a brief overview of this new feature.

I used to publish a “Daily Om” blog during GigaOm’s expansion beyond my solo operation. It primarily served as a platform for sharing links, graphics and other content that caught my interest — essentially functioning as a reporter’s notebook. This was, of course, before Twitter (and social media in general) became such a dominant force in sharing information.

I once shared extensively on social media, but the platforms have evolved. They now discourage sharing links that direct users to external sites. In response, I’ve returned to a more traditional approach. The Daily Blog features curated links to articles I find compelling, along with relevant graphics and memorable quotes. I hope to post with higher frequency there.

I chose to keep this content separate from the main website, which I reserve for my published articles. Since many of you receive my writings via email, I didn’t want to overwhelm your inbox with additional link-sharing posts. Creating a dedicated blog for these curated links made more logical sense.

The inspiration for the newly rebooted “daily blog” comes from Dave Winer, who maintains a “Links” blog. I’ve been using his new project, Wordland, for publishing to the “links” blog, in addition to using MarsEdit. I have also taken a cue from Marc Weidenbaum. The plan is to use this as a permanent archive for everything I share on social media. From here, I’ll route information to relevant channels — mobile apps, social networks and RSS feeds. The experiment continues. All suggestions are welcome.

Come visit the Daily Blog.

  1. Ignore my last comment. The DNS problem is with the second link to the daily blog. Feel free to delete these comments, I just wanted to give you a heads up.

  2. Hi,
The Daily Blog link resolved to this

A server with the specified hostname could not be found.

  3. I love the idea of bringing back a more traditional format for content sharing! Social media platforms have really changed the way we share links, and it’s great to see you embrace a more curated approach. Will you be focusing on specific themes or topics for the links you share?

    1. Most of my writing is technology, and technology adjacent. So expect a lot of what I care about — deep tech, classic tech, long form writing, interesting scientific and technology breakthroughs, occasional tech-culture piece (See San Francisco related post today) and generally that helps me (and you) help understand the world around me. I think this is my scratch pad, and a way to keep you folks in the loop. Expect some great reads — I love long reads, and this will be for flowing those to you.

  4. Nice to return to a personal space, moving away from Social. I had a list on X/Twitter, with embed on the Blog, but I abandoned it due to the changes in the platform.
    Congratulations and good work

    1. Thanks so much. I am finally getting to a point where I feel that at least there should be something that has a record of my daily thinking, reading and exploration. I can’t in theory write a long piece on a daily basis 🙂

    1. Phil, thanks. You can just use the URL and the RSS feed pops up for it. At least it does for me. Let me know if you have some problems.

  5. Wow, it looks great! And the top post right now is about EVs. Cool because omfg do we need to decarbonize already. Step in the right direction.

Love that you’re using Dave’s latest and what an alternative to the Must-spoiled trash fire.

    Sending you warm wishes.

  6. It is a lot less about protesting against it — it is just that I am keeping a record of what I say, like, or think in one place, and at the same time not ignoring how the world works. Social distribution and distributed attention are the modern reality. I just don’t want to lose what I have said, for it means a lot to me.

  7. It’s interesting how social media’s shift away from link sharing is pushing many of us back to blogging—almost like a full-circle moment for the web. Looking forward to seeing how your curated posts evolve in this new format.

    1. This is a work in progress to be honest — and hopefully I will come to a right format that works for both me and the community
