Leftovers

I’m always looking for a scene that feels like “my photo.” It doesn’t happen often. But life offers its little miracles all the time. When light, color, or contrast grabs me, I press the shutter. Too often, those photographs have remained unseen because of old rules and preconceived notions. Time to change that.

I have no idea why I’ve had this change of perspective now. Maybe it’s because I’m not traveling as much for landscape photography. Or perhaps my journey as a landscape photographer is coming to an end. Or maybe I’m simply embracing the idea that I can be two photographers.

There’s the one who chases minimal, abstract landscapes, and presents an imagined reality to the world. And the otherwho shoots off the cuff, led by light and life as they happen. No edits, no fuss! I want the camera to do the work, sharing the moment as it was.

Given that it is Thanksgiving weekend, I will call this series of photos “Leftovers.”

The best part of a Thanksgiving meal is not the meal itself, but the leftovers you enjoy for days to come. The same goes for these photos that find their way into my camera, and now to you.

PS: Made with Ricoh GRIIIx, Nikon ZF, Leica Q3 43, and Leica SL3.

  1. I really appreciate these Om. You’ve inspired me to look at some leftovers and share them (and not dry turkey.)

  2. Dear Om,
Thank you for posting these wonderful photos! If I‘d have to decide I‘d select the photo on the top and the last one, which I like the most.
But you shouldn’t stop taking minimalistic landscape photos – when will there be more on your website?
    Best, Dietmar

    1. Thanks Dietmar – I am not stopping the minimalistic landscapes anytime soon, just not as frequently because I am not traveling as much.

  3. We contain multitudes, you especially.. I particularly love that last frame, a soft more maximalist take, but still such an Om Moment. Grateful for your work and online friendship 🤗

    1. Thanks Amanda. Really appreciate your comments. I am hoping to find a way forward with this new simpler approach to photography.

  4. Hi Om,

    i loved this post
and i can’t tell which camera took which picture
today all cameras seem capable (in the right hands) of recording good images
    keep Omming on

    1. Hi Roger

Thanks for the comment. Indeed, the cameras are getting pretty good an there is very little difference. Honestly, what it all boils down to is how you comfortable you are with using the various buttons, ergonomics, and the menu systems.

I will keep taking photos and sharing them 🙂
