There is but one king

Last night, the tech-twitter was lit-up by the shocking news that Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have put in their papers and are leaving the company that bought them for a billion dollars — Facebook. They aren’t the first founders to sell their company to Facebook and then eventually leave the company. Whatsapp and Oculus founders too left the company after spending considerable time under the aegis of Mark Zuckerberg. Mike and Kevin, too are leaving under a shroud of disagreement with Zuckerberg, if media reports are to be believed.

Actions should speak louder than words

The crush that comes with hosting a conference such as Structure means that everything else in life (and work) takes a back seat. It is perhaps one of the reasons I never got around to writing about a lot of things that I spotted on my information stream. One of them was about a European venture capital firm announcing that it was going to write the startup financing term-sheet in plain english. It is not the first time, a venture capital firm or an investor has reaped the benefits of offering “founder friendly” term-sheets.

Term-sheets that put founders first and are written in simple english versus lawyer and banker speak are a welcome development in the startup process. Starting a company process is coated in obfuscation and slights of hand. As a journalist-turned-founder, I struggled with the legalese and had it not been for a few real friends who happen

My year in photos

2012… I hardly knew ya! Probably one of the busiest years of my life, it was one of the most fun fruitful and satisfying years as well. Sure it was stressful at times and yes, I packed on a few pounds, but let’s just say it was a year lived. Of course this is the year, I fell in love with Photography, thanks to Instagram which gave me the confidence that – yes I can take decent photos and share them with others. And as a result I am going to recap my year in photos.
