Zakir Hussain is the greatest living exponent of the tabla. Starting as a child prodigy playing traditional music, Zakir expanded the scope of his instrument through his experiments with Indian and Western idioms. THE SPEAKING HAND is the most in-depth record of this living legend at his prime. Features archival concert footage and rare interviews with legends of Indian Classical and World Music including Ustad Alla Rakha, Ravi Shankar, and Mickey Hart. Now it is time to go see this film.

Here are the details: Friday, September 12, 8pm, $12 Tischman Auditorium, The New School 66 West 12th St @ 5th Ave, New York City.

Now there is some sort of an afterparty with Karsh Kale, but I think it is going to be pretty lame. Karsh is good on your B&O system – if you catch my drift!
