Earlier this week, Mira Veda, one of the budding neo-soul artists stopped by at my office. We chatted about many things, a nice conversation, which came to a pregnant pause when Mira popped a question: why don’t our people buy more CDs and support the young artists? She lamented, people always wanted a freebie, or prefer to download it from one of the file sharing networks. We rent just released camera print movies, or buy counterfeit compact discs or DVDs.
After she left, I thought more about this rhetorical question she had asked? She is right – Blacks, Asians and Latinos they all support their artists but we don’t? Why is that? Why do we prefer to download our music for free instead of buying albums? That bothers me more now than ever before, because I hate it when someone borrows my book to read. Hey how about buying a copy and supporting all the hard work I put into writing this book.
Perhaps its time we say no to downloading or sharing music or movies and supporting our artists. These youngsters are working very very hard and we should do our best to support their labors of love. I have four artists I can recommend who could use your support. Mira, Sharaab, Brown Sounds, and Navdeep need our love and our dollars.
Of course you can all weigh in with your thoughts!
