The legendary Badmarsh’s is finally hanging up his asian dj turntables. Having been one of the pioneers of the Asian Breakbeat/Drum n Bass, Badmarsh has earned himself a place in musical history. An original member of the Nasha Collective, Badmarsh got signed to produce for Outcaste Records and became one half of the famed Badmarsh & Shri.
bq. Badmarsh’s career started within the East London borough of Hackney when he worked at reggae studio Easy Street alongside such greats as Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs. Easy street hired out PA systems to local Hackney Rave Club Labyrinth and Badmarsh soon became a resident at the notorious club. That residency lasted 5 years. (Sound-Generator)
His production and DJing was responsible for the Nu-Asian sound or Asian Underground being spread to a wider audience. The Last Badmarsh & Shri album Signs was an international success while the Calibre remix of the title track has been tearing up dance floors across the world. Eastern Drum & Breaks will be the last chance to hear this pioneer in action. Also headlining alongside Badmarsh will be fellow pioneer State of Bengal flanked by the Eastern Drum & Breaks crew.
His farewell set takes place at Hoxton’s Herbal, 10- 14 Kingsland Road, London, E2 (nearest tube & Old Street).
