bq. One of the problems with the name RSS is that it also stands for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, an Indian political organization. This leads Rediff (a leading portal in India which provides a selection of feeds) to spell out (bad pun intended) this has nothing to do with RSS as an XML format. Why is this ambiguity a problem, you might ask? Well, if you create a search-based feed at, say, Newstrove, you’ll get plenty of irrelevant results. Not that this is unique to RSS though, other technical terms such as .Net or Java are not search engine-friendly either. (Atom, for that matter, won’t work too well either.) With the explosion in the number of brands and trademarks, it’s harder and harder to come up with unique naming. via Lockergnome’s RSS Resource
