I know I am obsessing about M.I.A but could not let it go, for Aamir one of the most respected posters on our message board is not too impressed by MIA album.

After ‘Galang’, the beats tend to get tired and repititve for me. Don’t get me wrong, I still think its hot, but keep in mind: how much of this is the hype machine pushing the artist? i’ve been hearing stuff like ‘she’s the female tricky’, which i don’t understand at all. If anything, she is the 2005 equivalent of Neneh Cherry. (watch the video for ‘galang’ if you don’t believe me… anyone remember ‘buffalo stance’?) actually better than the album is the mix cd of mashups she did with dj diplo, ‘piracy funds terrorism vol 1’. there is a mash-up of galang and the old bangles track ‘walk like egyptian’ that is killer. go download it.
