It has happened to me before. Many times as you are chasing a story, trying to lock down details and get comments from various parties involved, someone else breaks the news, and you are left with nothing but your frustration and hours of work that amounts to nothing.

Something similar happened today – not to me but to Liz, who was hot on the heels of chasing a tip she got about Imeem being sued by Warner Music. We couldn’t find any documents on PACER and she was busy trying to nail down the details and contact the parties involved. And then Reuters broke the story. Her disappointment is what bummed me out, for I know how it feels to have a story slip away – just like that.

In the end, whatever I said wouldn’t make up for the thrill of a scoop. I do say, I have never been more proud of her doing her job the right way – for there is no other way. Today  she showed me that she is a real reporter – uncompromising and unrelenting, dogged and human. I appreciate that!

I know there will be more scoops.
