July 4… the Independence Day for United States of America is a very special day in this history of this great experiment. Like millions before me, I wasn’t born here, but immigrated here by choice. People confuse America as a land mass with boundaries… but (at least to me it) is much more.

It is an idea, an ideology and a way of life so powerful that it often engenders hate. But to many immigrants including me, it is hope and a second chance. A chance to start afresh, unencumbered by heritage, social station or (lack of) money.

July 4th also reminds me that we all have a debt to society we live in, and we should do something… anything to pay a little of it back. Here is to birthday number 233 and thousands more to come.
