The number of mobile phone users in Africa has increased by nearly 20 percent every year for the last five years to nearly 649 million people in Q4 2011 according to GSMA, a telecom trade body. Ninety-six per cent of subscriptions are pre-paid with voice services currently dominating. There are currently six live HSPA+ networks across Africa. The mobile ecosystem in Africa currently generates approximately $56 billion  with mobile operators contributing $49 billion, GSMA says. via Voice of America.
