Sir Jonathan Ive, design chief, Apple:
“Our goals are very simple — to design and make better products. If we can’t make something that is better, we won’t do it.”
Most of our competitors are interested in doing something different, or want to appear new — I think those are completely the wrong goals. A product has to be genuinely better. This requires real discipline, and that’s what drives us — a sincere, genuine appetite to do something that is better. via
I don’t believe most of Apple’s competitors are just trying to be different and not better. Of course, most of them do fail, but does that mean they shouldn’t try? The problem with this thought is that it discourages you from trying to do something that you’re note *sure* you can do better.
Yup. Only problem is people are afraid of change no matter if it’s better or not. Solve that problem and almost everything else solves itself.
I disagree with you Brennan. What he is saying is that you need to be spending a lot of time thinking and rethinking and making efforts to be better. Most of their rivals just think they have made something better and put it out in the market. I have been very frustrated with Android devices precisely for that reason. It was the same problem with mp3 players too. It takes a lot of thinking and rejecting and fine-tuning to make something better.
I though if you don’t do it different Apple sues you.
