Ties that bind

Today is Raksha Bandhan, an annual festival in India that celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters. Rakhi is a sacred thread that a sister ties on her brother’s wrist. The thread is a symbol of her love for her brother, and also it is a symbol that a brother’s livelong vow to protect her and her honor. It is the favorite aspect of my cultural heritage. My baby sister has been more like a great friend and also come to my rescue in my time of need. I also have another equally giving and caring sister, though she isn’t Indian and I didn’t even know her for nearly two-third of my life. They both make my life worth living. To sisters then!
