The Pacific Standard Magazine points to a study (PDF) from the New England Complex Systems Institute that demonstrates a correlation between rising food prices and riots in many parts of the world.

Feed people shit you get riots
Unfortunately, I think this is just the beginning of a longer-term trend. It’s difficult to foresee anything but significantly higher food inflation over the next 10-20 years. That’s a real cause for concern – in all parts of the world.

The effect on meat prices with stock food price rising. Stock being sent to market earlier than the norm. Which in turn creates an artificial market price.
A simplistic view would say swap to grain agri production from stock but the sheer capitol investment precludes this option.
