I stopped by to say hello to Ryan Donahue & Matt Rowe (who along with Ashton Kutcher) are co-founders of online fashion brand, Pickwick & Weller. It is a sparse office, but elegant. Much like their first product line T-shirts (for men and women) are of high quality and fit well. Most importantly, unlike Everlane, they make them in extra-large. “Every time I wanted to buy good T-shirts that fit well and were made of high quality cotton, they cost $70-to-$100 and were hard to find as they were stocked in small boutiques,” said Donahue, who in the past had worked at PayPal and SugarMedia. “We wanted same quality at J Crew prices.” They design and make their T-shirts in LA and they use cotton grown in California.
I have to admit – I have a tough time giving up my broken-in T-shirts from J Crew, but Pickwick quality is enough for me to switch. (Now only if they made some in lavender.) I would say, it is time for Silicon Valley startups to say good bye to American Apparel and embrace one of our own. Ryan and Matt are both software guys who are well, now doing clothes. Good luck guys! (Bonus link: An article about California grown cotton.)
Om, between your good taste and CA prices I show these posts to friends who think downtown Santa Fe is expensive, 🙂
