  1. Hyperbole was also the bane of newspaper copy editors. Editing kept much (but not all) hyperbole out of the newspapers. Copy editors also kept many lies (but not all) and many inaccuracies (but not all) out of newspapers.

    The main difference between the print era and the digital era is the near total demise of editing.

    On one hand, barriers to freedom to publish have been all but eliminated by the digital revolution. On the other, most material published on the Internet reaches few readers. Achieving wide readership is a more elusive challenge than ever.
