Jack Shafer, a columnist (and media critic) for Reuters wrote a piece, Journalism’s new Marquee Brothers, celebrating the new found “free agent” status of some media writers – folks such as Nate Silver. The piece ticked off my friends Rafat Ali, who obviously isn’t the one to hold back. And neither does Kara Swisher. What has always annoyed me is the myopia of the media establishment, represented by the likes of Shafer. And perhaps that’s why I respect David Carr, the antithesis of folks such as Shafer. As for me, Shafer’s latest column is just another example of what I have come to expect as an outsider — insiders who see the world through a very tiny lens.
