Big brands always get away with ripping up small brands, who have less marketing muscle. I don’t expect GQ or Esquire, who are beholden to Gucci pointing out that Gucci ripped off a design from Canadian company, Arc’tryx Veilance, who make some fantastic technical clothing and have perfect the art of minimal style. A little twist here and there and Gucci can pretend innocence. But the photo says it all — at least to me! (Thanks to Fashion Redef for jogging my memory.)

Gucci has nothing to prove as a brand at this point. Them and Arc’tryx don’t exist in the same segment – they don’t compete. And on the creative level – it’s just a trend. A minimalist take on M65 jacket. Nike makes a similar one, CK has been dong this for a while… obviously inspired but nothing new in that world.
I appreciate how you call a spade a spade, Om. The trust you engender with your honest and principled stands keeps you high on my list of must reads. My respect and please don’t stop.
These jackets look nothing alike to my eye, save for the four (totally different) pockets. They have a different cut, sleeves and collar.
