I stumbled across this video of Kathy Ryan, director of photography at The New York Times Magazine talking about how she found and fell in love with the light and shadow play inside the new New York Times building. The building was designed by Renzo Piano and photos were all taken on her sixth floor office. She took photos with her phone, posted them on Instagram. That series of photos has turned into a book: Office Romance what Aperture (the publisher ) describes as “Ryan’s photographic love song to life at her office.” The iPhone isn’t the best camera, but it is the camera that is ideal for telling a story. Instagram isn’t just a photo sharing service, it is a spark for a different kind of photo revolution. Ryan’s efforts prove it. The book costs about $30, though you can find it for less on Amazon.
