MIT doctoral student Natasha Wright adapted the idea of a grid-powered electrodialysis desalination system to a village scale system that is powered by the sun. It has made water in many Indian villages more drinkable. Perhaps we can get her to adapt this for California, which is facing its own water challenges. [MIT News]
