Four years ago, IDC, a research firm that charges thousands of dollars for its research and forecasts had boldly predicted that by 2016, Windows Phone would have overtaken Apple’s iPhone. They thought Nokia was going to save Windows Phone – logical, but not possible. Apple seems to be doing fine (though it is getting slaughtered in the stock market.) In 2012, Windows Phone market share was 5 percent. Today it is 2.8 percent. It is going to be hard to take IDC smartphone forecasts seriously in the future.
