There was a time when US was a wireless backwater. SMS was something most of us left to those crazy kids in Japan. In June 2001, there were mere 30,000 text (SMS) messages exchanged within the United States according to CTIA. In June 2004 that number was up to a whopping 2.8 billion. Revenues from SMS in the U.S. are up 300% (June 2003 – June 2004) while the data revenues in that same time period (June 2003 – June 2004) are up 140%. This is indeed good news for start-ups like SMS.ac. SMS.ac is on the list of top ten most influential wireless start-ups, according to IDC.
