There are rumors that Alcatel is looking to throw in the towel. The French phone giant is considering options for its One Touch mobile phone unit; could include sale or partnership. Rumors are coming barely a week after ALA released five new handsets.
My bet is on a bid from a chinese company.
Buying Alcatel gets you automatic royalty free membership into the GSM cartel. Which gives one lots of leverage with Nokia, MOT, etc.
Re: an earlier posting (er love-fest) about the one chip wireless solution.
The companies you listed are all getting killed by QCOM, who is the only company to achieve the holy grail.
For over 10 years now, nobody has been able to produce a reliable CDMA chipset and sell it in volume.
