The processor achieved a top speed of 8.429 gigahertz on Aug. 31. The previous record was 8.308 GHz. The AMD FX CPU, likely to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2011, is based on AMD’s new Bulldozer architecture. There are more details on the AMD blog, but in the interim watch this video to learn about this incredibly fast chip.
