Cox Communications, despite its recent outage is trying hard to up the speed ante and starting this month will start offering its customers two tier plans – one running at more modest 5 megabits per second, and another premium service running at top speeds of 15 megabits per second. The upload speeds on both the service are going to be 2 megabits per second. The price points on these two services are $40 and $55 a month respectively. (These are prices for folks who also order either Video or phone service from Cox.) The company also sells a $25 a month value package. Brian Hoyt, who writes the Infinte Abyss blog, thinks this is response to increased pressure from Verizon FIOS in his home state of Virginia.
