Cellular superman, Craig McCaw is getting out of telecom town. He has resigned from the Nextel board. The powerhouse behind what is now AT&T Wireless and Nextel, is a maverick who has uncanny timing about everything (except Fixed Wireless) and his decision to sell and leave shows that telecom is about to go into a other period of extended spasms. In other words, he can use his money to buy something else, I don’t know a fiber network or build something brand new. Rest assured, he is unlikely to be spending his time hitting golf balls. Mind you he still owns 5 percent of Nextel.
