Going.com, a hyperlocal events site (with social networking features) has raised $5 million in funding from General Catalyst and Highland Capital, two well known east coast funds for expansion into new cities. The site has over 500,00 users currently and currently operates in four cities New York, Boston, SF, and Chicago and is mostly 20 somethings.
50,000 or 500,000?
Wow… Seems like a cool site. Can it really be considered hyperlocal? I guess I get it, but it seems that it eventual goal is to become the place to go to for all major cities… I never considerd Yahoo’s UpComing hyperlocal but I bet it started out simular to going.com did.
Same thing for ImThere.com
Was formerly known as Hey Let’s Go! heyletsgo.com. Hard to see it generating 500,000 members on its traffic, though.
