Apparently there are some legislators who are contemplating a broadband tax which like the Universal Service Fund is going to help grow broadband in rural areas. Nearly 62 US House of Representatives from both parties have signed on for this initiative. I for one, have no problem with this, and have often suggested that perhaps we should have done this a long time ago. (Hey maybe some in Washington is also reading my blog?) However, the big issue is that do we need to fund for rural US? After all telecom and broadband are going to become one and the same in the future. So there should be a way to merge both these “funds” at some point in the future. More@ ZDNet
