Looks like there is a new gun in wireless town – Huawei. The Chinese equipment maker has just launched a series of 3G phones and is targeting the European and Asian markets with their handsets. Initial offerings include two W-CDMA/GPRS phones and a data card. Entry of Huawei in the handset market is not good for most of the existing players. Unlike many ODMs from Asia, Huawei is more organized and has the blessings of the Chinese government in its efforts to eat into the global telecom market. It has become a big player in router, switch, DSL and wireless back end equipment business by leveraging its local market share into deeply discounted products elsewhere in the world. It has done a good job in emerging telecom markets like Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
