Incumbents win big in Indian Broadband push

Pyramid Research: The government’s decision was clearly a big win for both BSNL and MTNL, who collectively own about 98% of India’s copper loop and have thus far denied access to their last mile infrastructure to private players, claiming they are capable of pushing broadband penetration rates upwards in the country themselves. India hopes to have 20 million broadband users by 2010.
