  1. A couple other geek dinners have been at Texas embassy of of Trafalgar Square, in case the @Media Social isn’t chosen as venue. Would love to join.

  2. Where ru gonna be staying? I will round up some people. And bring me some Dunhills dude!! 😉

Pubs may be a bit tricky because of the World Cup…

    May be tricky? 🙂

    I would love to come.

Of course it could always be the simple, meet at a certain place and wonder around London until a pub is found that everyone can fit into.

  4. okay guys can we simply pick a place. i am clueless about where to go, but lets decide a nice place and we can meet up. i am looking forward to seeing you all.

  5. You should meet up at the Marquis of Granby, which is a 15 minute walk south of the Westminster tube stop. It’s the lunch spot for the UK intelligence community.

  6. Congrats on the new gig, Om! Can’t wait to hear more about it.

It is true … London is World Cup crazy at the moment. On Saturday, there are three matches: POR/IRN @ 14:00, CZE/GHA @ 17:00 and ITA/USA @ 20:00.

So, the key question is: football/soccer or no?

Polka would be a good non-sports option:

The SportsCafe is one of the many wide-screen options:

I’m happy to help to coordinate. How many people? … Drop me an email and lemme know.

  7. What about the ‘Cittie of York’? It’s where WebMasterWorld.com holds its London get-togethers. I don’t think they have any TVs for the World Cup and it’s very olde-worlde 🙂

  8. What area of London are you staying? Everyone is going to have a favourite pub in their local area, so it might take some time to decide. 🙂

For general ease I suggest something in the Leicester Square/Covent Garden/Charing Cross triangle. It would be fairly easy to meet at Charing Cross tube Station and go from there.

There is a very good wine bar not far from Charing Cross.

  9. The problem with meeting at a tube station is that late arrivers are stuffed. We need a venue where we’ll remain.

The last “A” list blogger in town was Michael Arrington of crunchnotes fame. He held court (most successfully) at the Pitcher & Piano, 69-70 Dean Street, Soho, London W1D 3SG.

As a venue it worked pretty well, so that’s my suggestion.

Om, let me know if you need any help in London. Michael’s great innovation was getting some of the drinks sponsored. As an impoverished start-up I can’t help with that.

  10. seems like pitcher and piano is a great place. lets meet up there. hopefully it will not be overrun with football fans

  11. At relatively short notice I expect lots of people will be busy on Saturday night – I know I am.

Om, is there anyway we could meet at say 1pm or were you thinking of an evening do?

  12. The P&P in Dean Street can be noisy, so I’d suggest trying for the upstairs room if we can do so. It tends to be very busy on a Saturday night, so if some people couild get there early and “claim the space” that would be good.
