In the ongoing saga of corruption in cricket, the Sunday Telegraph recently revealed that Hansie Cronje, the late South African captain, had a whopping 70+ overseas bank accounts, most of them based in the Cayman Islands. All of the accounts were illegal as none of them were revealed to the South African Revenue Service. Perhaps, the most alarming thing of note is that there is an estimated $250 million dollars gambled on average on an one-day international match(131 were held in 2000), mostly controlled by the illegal bookmakers in India. Factor in the relatively miniscule salaries paid to players and it should be no surprise that most matches are rigged. [Kuro5hin.org]
