Mike Nofs, Republican representative from Battle Creek, Michigan has been taking a lot of heat for thinking about introducing a legislation that would halt wireless access expansion true.
In an op-ed in the Battle Creek Enquirer, he writes, that is not true. He points out that he is more interested in private money developing these networks, instead of state spending its precious dollars.
“There are at least half a dozen companies who are contemplating or are in the process of making substantial investments in our state. Thus, it seems ironic to me that we would ask these same companies to compete with government-owned, controlled or subsidized enterprises; especially in an environment where municipalities at all levels are having difficulty finding the funding merely to maintain existing services and staff,” he writes.
He says he is looking for a way that the public and private sector can work together.
