Motorola is trying to get more of those public network infrastructure dollars and is buying Mesh Networks for an undisclosed amount. Motorola already has one fixed-wireless broadband solution for residential and business customers, called Canopy. Rick Rotondo, vice president of marketing for the Maitland, Fla-based company tells Internet News that technology will “provide outstanding backhaul for mesh networks.”
One thing to understand is that just like Canopy, the Mesh Networks product is proprietary and has nothing to do with WiFi/WiMax. This means it will always be at a price disadvantage at the user device end. The best way to look at this new product line is Canopy v2.
