I didn’t really want to write another post about MSN Spaces and beat up on Microsoft but an IM chat with someone I respect dearly, made me change my mind. For instance, MSN Spaces is missing an API to download posts, which means you cannot really edit anything on your client tool. Add to this the fact that one has to trust Microsoft to host your site. Given their track record on security and reliability, I don’t thin so. And if that is not enough, you need to have Passport for posting and commenting. Ouch! Didn’t Microsoft use its own search engine and read posts which labeled SixApart’s TypeKey as the Patriot Act of Weblogging! Bloggers can we make some noise about this now.
Don’t forget MSN Spaces’s Terms of Use, where you sign away your ownership rights, including any future royalties. (see Section 6.)
Unlike Blogger, you cannot profitshare ad revenue. You have no ownership rights, after all.
Oh, and you require Internet Explorer to render it properly.
Oh, and it censors words in your posts it considers inappropriate.
