  1. Correct, the licenses were auctioned for fixed wireless, more specifically for standard IEEE 802.16, of which WIMAX is a subset.
    Particularly interesting was the fact that the regulatory authority excluded incumbent operator Telenor from the auctions (, arguing that the firm currently uses the 3.6 to 3.8 GHz band for internal radio communications which could be used for the WiMAX next-generation wireless internet offering.
