Unstrung says NTTDoCoMo has conducted a successful trial of a 4G wireless technology that at present can do 1Gbps real-time packet transmission in the downlink at the moving speed of about 20km per hour. Of course in real life the speeds are going to be much lower.
Note, their achievement was to get 10 bps/Hz. This means to get 1 Gbps you need 100 MHz of spectrum. No one is going to have that much spectrum, in a usable band. any time soon. This is a worthwhile achievement, just don’t expect to see wireless mobile GigE any time soon.
