Our friends at Light Reading are reporting that nearly 40,000 fiber miles that were put in place for the RNC in New York, will stay put and help do more mundane tasks that will make life of New Yorkers slightly better. The oodles of fiber that went into the Farley Post Office building (a structure that is being converted to New York’s new Penn Station) will be used for more (working) TV monitors, improved phone coverage, and maybe an Internet terminal or two. Who knows some Wi-Fi hot spots as well? While on Verizon, the company launched a 3 megabits per second DSL service in 12 states and Washington DC. Man now I wish I was in New York even more!
