BBC reports that efforts are currently underway to add more oomph to WiFi, and two competing technologies are proposing to get the data rates of over 500 megabits per second. The battling technologies, are called WWise and TGn Sync, and are backed by two different sets of companies. Intel, Atheros and Agere Systems are the heavyweights behind WWise while Texas Instruments and Broadcom are the mainbackers of the TGn Sync. (Seriously guys work on the names!) Hey don’t expect any of this to amount to anything for a while, and which ever technology wins, well the first products are going to come sometime post 2007. In the short term expect the speeds of over 100 megabits per second to become standard.
