MySpace, meet the new new MySpace. It’s called Twitter. According to Hitwise, a web traffic intelligence company, Twitter has overtaken MySpace in the UK. In August, Twitter.com became the 27th most-visited web site in the UK, one position ahead of MySpace. The Twitter service itself must be even more powerful, since this data is restricted only to visits to Twitter.com — and we know that the majority of Twitter’s users come to the service from third-party applications such as TweetDeck. Twitter has been growing like crazy over the past few months. Yesterday, Data Center Knowledge reported that Twitter’s growth is putting strains on the infrastructure of its data center provider, NTT America. Twitter’s growth and MySpace’s fall from grace is a sign that nothing is permanent in the ephemeral world of social networks. What’s hot today could be not tomorrow.
