Verizon EV-DO arrives

  1. Hi Om,

One thing always missing from articles about cellular data is the ** upload ** data rate. Everyone focuses on the download speed.

CDMA 1xRTT and 1xEv-DO both have download speeds of 40K bps – 60K bps.

If you can get DSL or a cable modem, there’s no way you should get 1xEV-DO as a replacement.

I’ve been using 1xRTT and 1xEV-DO, When there’s no dialup or you have a lot of patience, 1xRTT is usable, especially for e-mail (large files notwithstanding). 1xEV-DO is much better and the browsing experience and downloading large files actually isn’t bad as at — most of the time.

  2. evdo is great when doing solid downloads or strong for general web browsing ONLY if you tune you system… Verizon added a high latency time to keep voip down and network costs down too.. but new phones will be available…

well… at you’ll find all the broadband specs for the video phone and settings… BUT… i dont know if i’d move quite yet… will announce when the Blackberry RIM video phone is on the market…
