Andy got a video carol from folks over at Skype … a customized one at that. It immediately made me think – did the video VoIP providers like GloPoint and Vonage, miss an opportunity with the New York Transit strike? What if Vonage, Packet 8 and others offered free video calling to everyone living in New York, for the length of the the strike? That would not only have generated tons of press, not to mention, would have bloggers buzzing, but it would have created a different kind of “good will” towards them. They could have had a real-life large scale test of the Video-phones.
Is it going to cost Skype much to do this ‘good will’ thing?
Don’t New Yorkers have to have videophones already? Once they have it can they not have free video calls from one of many providers, strike or not?
