USTA Telecom 2004, currently under progress, is expected to be attended by about 5000 people, double the number of people who attended the show last year. The show clearly is benefitting from the hype around VoIP. John Abel, the USTA’s senior vice president for membership, marketing and business development, gave much of the credit to rapidly emerging technologies, such as Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP), according to Las Vegas Sun. “The whole message is that times have changed,” Abel told the Sun. “We’re in a different world now. The consumer has a lot of choices. VoIP became a legitimate business threat. Virtually everyone of our (member) companies is involved in VoIP in one way or another.” Cox is going to announce its big push into VoIP perhaps on Monday, when they talk about their VoIP plans. Then Earthlink is going to outline its plans. Monday morning the key notes are by CEOs of Comcast (Brian Roberts) and Verizon (Ivan Seidenberg) are keynote speakers.
