  1. Great story and I hope the phrase “donkey in the well moment” catches on.

    I am a senior exec at a software co. and we went through a “donkey in the well” moment. We started as a shrink wrapped enterprise software company and had to transition to a annual license model in 2003. In the process, we lost about 95% of our customers but our revenue became a lot more stable and we were able to align the cost structure with our new business model.

    Losing most of our customer base that we spent years cultivating was an unpleasant reality but one we ultimately determined was needed to get to the next stage for the company.
