One of those days – lots of news around WiMAX chip makers. First French WiMAX chip start-up Sequans Communications raised $9 million in series B funding, bringing the total to $12 million. It will need the money since there is a lot of competition – Wavesat, Fujitsu and Intel and several others – and the technology is still not in wide deployment. Sequans plans to be shipping 802.16d compliant chipsets by June 2005, for both basestations and subscriber terminals, and has already flagged two equipment deals, with Airspan Networks and Cambridge Broadband Ltd. Else where, Sam Endy jumped ship from smart Antenna maker, ArrayComm to TeleCIS, which makes WiFi and WiMAX chips. He was the CEO of ArrayComm!
