Wannabe Googles – that’s how I had described blog search engines including Technorati, Feedster and IceRocket. Back in August 2005, was the first time I soured on these RSS/Blog search services. Well, Hitwise data shows that they will all remain wannabes, and big daddy Google is going to keep chugging along. Why? Erick Schonfeld puts it best when he writes, “I still think Technorati returns better blog results, but it is not where I go to first to search for blog entries. Neither is Google Blog Search, for that matter. It’s plain old Google.”

Technorati is really awful. It is slow and returns inconsistent results. Its interface is confusing.
Blog search sites are like press clipping services. They are all poor, its just a question of which one is less poor at any given moment in time.
The splogs and ad aggregators of content blogs are making it more and more of a challenge too.
