I woke up too early this morning and ended up listening to Time from Pink Floyd’s most awesome album, Dark Side of The Moon. The lyrics reminded me of all the time we spend on social networks, without realizing why, how and what for.
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the wayTired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behing you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gunAnd you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking
And racing around to come up behing you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to deathEvery year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
He time is gone the song is over thought I’d something more to say.
Awesome. A great set of lyrics, which I had never paid enough attention to. This will fit in nicely to a 2012 kick-off address I’ m doing in 2 weeks. Thx.
Amen.
I rarely listen to music when I run. But when I do, it’s often DSOTM.
This stanza is the one for the win.
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
That song’s a great reminder not to let the social networks La Brea Tarpit your mind.
Indeed 🙂
Thanks for expressing. Life is short. Regret for time lost is regret for time lost.
Cripes, Om. Have you been cloning the music file on my hard drive?
Pink Floyd has been a soulful part of my life for decades. And David Gilmour could give guitar lessons to anyone.
Lol! Ed, been a long time listener of Floyd 🙂
