I read this comment on Smart Brands in the Connected Age that defined brands so well, something that is forgotten.

…confuses brands with products. Brands are badges. Brands identify the maker. If we go back a hundred years are so, every farmer was a brand. Cows were branded to identify who they belonged to.

Good news is we are going back to this definition of the brand.
