Hello, friends.
It has been a long time since I wrote to you. It’s not that I didn’t want to write—I’ve just been very busy—and that’s a good thing. You see, I have a new project: CrazyStupidTech, a newsletter I’m co-writing with Fred Vogelstein. I’m having a great time. (Please sign-up, if you haven’t. And also tell your friends about it.)
Why? Because I’m back to being my usual inquisitive, curious self. It’s a highly focused effort devoid of any desire for an outcome tied to a large audience or to grow a big business. I’m writing just because I think there are stories about technology and the tech-of-technology that need to be told.
Here are some of my pieces — and hopefully, they’re enough to convince you to sign up for the new newsletter (if you haven’t yet).
In addition to CrazyStupidTech, I have started making a renewed effort to write (almost) daily on my blog. While the occasional article veers from technology, I mostly write about tech and how it dovetails with our modern lives.
Here are a few links to some of my recent longer essays and articles that you might have missed.
It’s a more personal and somewhat optimistic view of what’s happening in the world of technology. This approach to writing isn’t new—I used to do this before my previous blog became a company or a business. So in a way, it’s back to the future.
With my creative energies focused on these two efforts, I have decided to end this occasional Letter from Om. I will merge this email list with the On My Om (almost) daily newsletter. Why am I doing so? As a writer, I find that you have to continue to have your own community that goes beyond social media platforms. Sure, I am spending time on Twitter, Threads, Mastodon, Warpcast, and BlueSky. But at the end of the day, my newsletter is the best way to get in front of you—the reader.
If you’re already a subscriber, you don’t have to do anything. You will not receive duplicate emails. Otherwise, you’ll get an email giving you the option to continue receiving the emails on an (almost) daily basis or to unsubscribe. I completely understand if you don’t want to hear from me every day. I hope you do. Whatever your decision, I deeply appreciate your support, friendship, and, most importantly, attention.
It has been fun. It has been real. It has been lovely.
And if you want to be helpful, tell your friends about my newsletter and get them to subscribe. It’s free—and free of the mundane!
Stay hopeful. Be amazing.
Om
Bonus Link: If you have made it this far, here is a link to some photos of mine from Vietnam. I share this as a reminder that I have a photos-only newsletter. Just send me an email if you want me to add you to that list.
