The wireless and broadband revolution is finally spreading to the final frontiers of our planet. India, China, Brazil, Russia and the African continent have become major drivers of growth of the telecom networks. Across the planet people are signing up for either mobile services, landlines or broadband connections. And we are not done yet. According to new research by Telegeography, there will be 2.5 billion new subscribers across the planet between now and 2013. The firm also predicts that:
- By the end of 2013 there will be 700 million broadband subscribers.
- There will be 2 billion wireless subscribers by 2013, up 60 percent from today.
- By the end of 2013 there will be no fewer than 2.5 billion net new subscribers or revenue-generating units.
- The Asia Pacific region will account for 50 percent of the total subscribers in 2013, up from 28 percent at present.
- North America’s share will decline to 7 percent, but they will generate 23 percent of total revenues.
The best telecom companies in this pace (IMHO) are: China Mobile (CHL), Telefonica (TEF), Indonesia Telekom (TLK), Turkcell (TKC) Vimpel (VIP) Telenor (TELNY.PK), Tele Norte – Brazil (TNE) and Hutchison (HTX).
